Hip Flexor Release, Move Within Yoga #28

6/22/2020

I had a query on hip flexors, a group of muscles running through the pelvis that includes one of  my favorites, the psoas. They help us do the most basic of movements like walking and forward bends, not to mention twists - but that's another topic for another day. The moves here are geared toward improving our forward bends - our ability to do them, our ease and grace when doing them as part of a workout or just in everyday life.

The exercises here are geared toward beginners who are mobile: can get on and off the floor, and have some balance and strength. The forward bends here are modified for people with a host of ailments or strains. Please consult a medical professional before trying these or any other fitness regime.

The psoas muscle is a juicy muscle that needs a lot of tender care when exercising. Allow the breath to soften, especially in any holding pose. I have a few free-breath videos to walk you through this technique so please check those out.

Please check out my latest blog, a reflection in our eclipse season on the cusp between two different worlds entirely. Blue Jeans Blog is the name of my writings.

My live Zoom classes will be wrapping up for summer, but if you'd like to stay posted on future classes, please email me at movewithinyoga@gmail about this or any other questions, feedback or comments.

If you'd like to do a karmic or energy exchange, please consider subscribing and sharing, or a donation toward the cost of production : https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=9K4YTKN2YAXXC&source=url

Baby Camel, Move Within Yoga #27

PictureBaby Camel, palms against backs of thighs
If it seems daunting to do camel and get your hands all the way back to your ankles, then work on Baby Camel (see pic).

In this video, I teach you how to do a series of poses that prep the body for the full camel pose as well as the alternative baby version. The prep poses like full arm circle as well as the end pose continue to help me open up my chest, release my shoulders, strengthen my shoulder girdle and soften tension in my neck. It's a lovely flow too for your arms and hands.

On a psychological level, it's a great mood booster. On a character trait level, it improves your work ethic.

For live Zoom classes, please email me at movewithinyoga@gmail.com or please subscribe to my channel where you can check out more than 25 videos on everything from breathing exercises to full 45-minute sequences.

If you found this of value and would like to do a Karmic exchange, sharing is caring! Word-of-mouth counts as major support, as does any sharing through social mediums. Producer credits will be given for future shows and count as a skill. This is a scaled down version of what Hollywood producers do: help build content through support.

Financial donations towards the cost of production can be given through PayPal and are much appreciated: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=9K4YTKN2YAXXC&source=url

Free-Breath Exercise 2 for Inner Peace, Move Within Yoga Video #26

6/11/2020

My second breathing video in my Free-Breath series continues to explore this technique for inner peace. If you're feeling angry or hostile, you can transform that energy into peace -- peace within YOU. "Let there be peace on Earth/And let it begin with me" - anyone else remember that tune?

And like all these free-breath exercises, there are no rituals, no mantras, no chanting and no positive thinking required!

The only requirement is observation. When you bring your observation to the breath, transformation happens. Observation means seeing without judgment.

In the words Mona Miller, knowing how "to see yourself without judgment, control or fixing is crucial before seeing and speaking with others. We still have a free-will to 'see' ourselves in others and admit whether something is our issue or not."

If you found this or any of my videos of value and like to do a Karmic exchange, sharing is caring! Word-of-mouth counts as major support, as does any sharing. Financial donations towards the cost of production can be given through PayPal and are much appreciated: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=9K4YTKN2YAXXC&source=url
